This is the type of job that is often used in the United States, due to a very loud political campaign that is being made there every time when there’s a new election of some sort being held. The candidates and their staff need to be sure that everything will go right, so they hire people responsible, for the software and hardware pieces of their computers. Only at first sight this might look like a standard IT job. What differs it from other IT jobs, is working in really a lot more stress, and being constantly on the road.
Russell Henry is a man who worked at a position like this. He was a technical engineer for one of the U.S. political parties at the elections in 2000 and 2004. He recalls that time as very crazy. “I was constantly reimaging, deploying, decommissioning, and moving PCs,” he says. “It seemed like it would never end.” Like I said earlier, always on the move. Of course there are also other interesting events that can happen during a political campaign, like bomb threats or sniper alarms. A computer technician is a part of the team, so he has to go almost thru the same hell as the candidates do. A cone of this job is that it’s very unsure. Let’s face it, if your party loses the elections, you’re not really needed any more, and have to look for something else. However Henry was fortunate because even though his candidate lost, he was working for a national party so he kept his job. If he was working on an individual campaign, it would be goodbye for him. Unfortunately elections aren’t being held every year.
Most people find politics repugnant, and they couldn’t be working on this position just because of that. Let’s not forget though, that you don’t have to share your candidates life views in order to work for him. If you like when there’s always something going on, and you don’t mind the frequent relocations, maybe this is a job for you, because let’s not forget, that behind every political campaign there’s surely a lot of money, so why don’t grab some of it for yourself.
